10" Wheel fit question (replica wheels)
Question for those of you running 18x10 replica wheels in the rear with 15mm spacers. Are you experiencing any wheel well rub or vibration? The claimed offset is ET65 but my top notch installer indicates this being aftermarket they are off by a few mils and doesn't believe I will have clearance with my 265/35 winters. The wheels have not yet been mounted.

265/35 winters??? I didn't realize they make winter tires that wide.
|
Yeah they work pretty well in the powder. Had plenty of practice last year. The factory Carreras in Boxster fit took a beating and they are expensive to replace: $500 each (yes for cast alloys), the whole Replica set wasn't much more. I figured I would lessen the punishment by running replicas for December - April this year and I can probably run the winters for a few seasons still, the historic snow falls kept me home quiet a bit last year.. Never been a fan of spacers but since its not for track/autocross season I figured I might be okay. I'll probably log 4K miles by April.

I run 225/45/17 in the back but have to baby the throttle in snow. The 17s are not as pretty but it's winter after all.
Yes I do know how expensive factory Carrera lights are, ask me how I know! |
If you are planning to run 15mm spacers, it would be easy to adjust the fit as needed with a larger or smaller spacer.
|
in searching 18X10 wheels it seems I would need 21mm spacers.
These wheels were picked up on an Ebay auction indicating Boxster fit. The seller says they've sold to Boxster owners without issue. If the there is rubbing/vibration they offered to take back the wheel but I would have to pay shipping which I guess would run $100 UPS ground from NJ to CA. An of course mounting/dismounting would not be free. |

Im running 19x10 +58ET with a 265/30 tire. With a 15mm spacer the net is +43mm.
This is on a PSS9 set up that is lowered +/- 1".... no clearance issues. Thx Sean '00 986 S |

Apparently Wheel Dynamics used to sell the same 18X10 65ET replica wheel along with a hubcentric spacer kit with 17-20mm spacers. I'm checking to see if it comes with longer bolts. I have no experience with use of spacers on any car really. I tend to stick with OEM but at this point the shipping fees are going to cost me $270 if I can't work something out with the wheel shop (Wheels Plus - L.A.) to take them back and of course no wheels at the end of it all. Not exactly what I need after a pricey front control arm repair. |

p.s. The standard oem lug bolt is 28mm . Therefore, you'll need to source some that are approximately 48mm . |

Do you think this set up will look weird? p.s. PORSCHE letter decals for the doors should be here soon. |

I found a set of the older Italian-made Carrera Light replicas this Spring and the rears were 18" x 10" with a 47 offset. They fit perfectly with no spacers, so I guess this means you need a minimum of an 18mm spacer. You will likely need to tie back the E-brake cable to keep it from contacting the rim. Many people have used heavy duty zip locks, or Porsche has clips you can buy.
Good luck! |
As far as spacers are concerned, only use H&R (or the spacers they private label, like Gemballa, etc) The money saved on cheap spacers is so not worth it. I chased a front end vibration forever, and finally corrected it by ditching the cheaper spacers I had installed. When I finally got H&R's the tolerance difference was very obvious.

Any time you use a spacer > 10mm, I would recommend using the type that bolt to the hub using the stock bolts and have studs that attach the wheel with supplied lug nuts. HRs are like that as are several other quality hub centric spacers. Extra long bolt attaching spacers are hard on wheel bearings.
