Another Defector
As previously posted, I had the pleasure of dealing with "Sgt Brad" on the sale of my 2002 Boxster S, it is a great car and it went to a great guy. Like some other board members, I just couldn't stop looking at the air cooled 911's, just something about them. After watching some of the 993 prices jump recently, I decided to take the plunge. A mere 15 miles from me I found a 1996 Polar Silver C2, it's a 2 owner 48k mile no hit / no paintwork car with all the service records, it's in overall Excellent Condition inside and out. My first thought was how small it seemed compared to the Boxster, inside and out. Next was the feel of the car, even though it is only 6 model years older, it feels like it is from a different era, and yes I know it is lol. Well anyway, thanks again to you guys for helping me out in the past, I'll try to repay those favors on occassional visits here on the forum........Mark.

Welcome to 993 ownership...it is a wonderful car, however, you will not be exempt of the dreaded secondary air injection issues, as your mileage is approaching the point. Just as Boxsters have their issues, all 3.6 993 engines will suffer from this problem at some point in time.

I've always admired the styling of the 993 . I wish Porsche would revisit it's design language in future endeavors .

Will do Thstone. My situation / motivation for the move is likely quite a bit different from most forum members;
-After having convertibles for over 25 years, I wanted a coupe for a pleasure vehicle. I'm getting to that age where I frankly feel like a "db" driving with the top down, especially in a Porsche.....just me. -While I have done some racing and have participated in HPDE's in the past, that stuff doesn't interest me anymore, getting older I guess lol. -I grew tired of watching the value of Boxsters drop like rocks, Hopefully the 993's will hold closer to my purchase price than the water cooled Porsches have, we'll see. -Always wanted a 911, the 993 is IMO the best looking of the bunch to date. While I would of loved to get an "S" model with those incredibly sexy hips, I just couldn't bring myself to spend the kind of dollars the S's are currently commanding. |
I like these cars but in my book air-cooled Porsches will become to valueable to beat on.
You need a water-cooled for real driving. My Indy just did an overhaul of a 1977 3.0 (brown). He thinks it can fetch $35K. Which probably means $50K in 10 years or so. |

Beautiful automobile ! When I bought the 986, my old friend a "911" fan gave me a heck of alot abuse. Boxterher, sisybox, "poor man's P, etc. Yes, I like the 911's BUT, My wife and I had to take care of alot of obligations prior to buying a "sports car" And when the time was OK, we searched and bought a beautiful 99 White w/navy top/int. We were third owner, the first 2 were friends. We trusted the purchase and never looked back. ( $ 10,000.00) Met all of you on this forum and are thankfull . Good Luck with your new auto !!! Don't feel bad about not going for the 993 S widebody. The standard narrow body 993 is much, much better looking. Did I mention how much better the narrow body 993 looks? ;) |

Why not? I know it's not directly over the latch. But it's close enough - you are not going to bend the ****************ing hood pushing the badge. And it means you don't smudge the paint. ;)

I don't care if Jesus say so but I have never closed my hood that way. That's just like peeing standing up but with the toilet seat down.

Just now got around to getting her cleaned up. My older boy is currently earning some date money for tonight, he clay barred it this morning, currently polishing / removing swirl marks with Porter Cable, he has a coat of Mothers Carnuba to apply yet. He got the interior looking good to.......
