Dash bubbling
 

I guess its time to replace / reupholster my entire dash. A big part of the leather is bubbling now and its irritating me more than normal.

Does anyone have instructions on how to remove the entire dash ? Does it seems like a DIY 1-2 day job to replace it with new unit ?

Also, I would like to try to cover the old dash in CF .. but can't find any picture of any 986 / 996 with a full carbon dash ( not just trims ) .. has this been done / attempted ?

I've don it twice. Don' t have a manual but if you find you can improvise there are some good exploded views HERE. Personally I would try to pop it with a slit from an exacto knife than inject some glue and work it around under the bubble.

Contact cement is good when doing the whole dash but might be hard to work around under the bubble. Auto upholstery shops sell a spray contact cement that works great, It just requires getting the stuff out to.

It really depends on the tpe of bubble and your own craftiness.

I've had good results with ...
 

... a syringe to first draw out any air in the bubble and then injecting a liquid glue in several points where the bubble used to be.
I have never seen a carbon fiber covered dash.

PK, did you have any trouble near the passenger side airbag area ?

Very smart tip pedro .. not the 'perfect' solution since there will be a syringe sized hole in the dash leather BUT it does 95% of the work for 10% of the effort and very little $$ .. I'll try it soon and post pics!

Wow .. very nice write up .. the process looks pretty daunting .. how many hrs did it take you to pull everything apart and more importantly put it back together ?

It's been a couple of years, but I think it took 2-3 hours to get it all apart with taking pictures and bagging screws.

... a syringe for insulin (sub-cutaneous) the needle is so thin that it will not leave a visible hole in the leather.

I haven't messed around near the airbag but you'll never get near anything critical in the airbag module using either an exacto knife or syringe if that your concern. You would have to stab it about 1-2" deep. All you want to do is get through the leather which is about 1/16th" thick.
