Removing airbag stickers - 3M adhesive remover, alcohol, or acetone?

To remove the annoying airbag warning stickers from the visor, what is the final consensus of the group on the best solvent to use?

1. 3M adhesive remover
2. Denatured alcohol
3. Acetone
or
4. Goof off

Thanks,
Ron

Denatured alcohol...and lots of patience. Goof off will melt the plastic, as will most other strong solvents.

+1 On Alcohol

... the denatured kind that is. I used denatured alcohol, a small rag, and lots of time to get mine off.

If you want to take a half hour doing each visor, use alcohol. If you want to spend 2 minutes, use laquer thinner.

Alcohol

Worked for me and didn't dissolve the vinyl material.

I'd be afraid to use anything stronger that would attack or soften what you are trying to preserve.

Takes all of about 5 minutes or so do to each one, no big deal!

I used the sticker cover-ups available pre-cut on ebay. Easy to apply, and they look great

+1 - I used the strong stuff too, but I also have black seat dye from doing my seats and I used that afterwords...they came out fantastic!!. Would never know there was once stickers, looks like new.

Will laquer thinner do any damage to the (1) plastic mirror cover on the top side; or (2) vinyl on the under side?

+1 on that. They are practically invisible, very easy to apply. Mine have been on for 3 summers now with no fading or peeling.

Tried alcohol on mine and didn't bulge. Bought the vinyl stickers and they look great.

3m adhesive remover didn't work for me. Acetone is probably strong enough to etch the plastic. I used alcohol and it worked, but as mentioned before, it had to soak for 5-10 minutes. That's not exactly painful. It doesn't affect the plastic at all.

Rubber gloves. Denatured alcohol. Finish with 303.

I just did this 30 mins ago. Heavy solvent not a good idea took all of 2 seconds to turn the decal into goo. wiped it off, but it left the the plastic dry, and took some of the grain off.

On the other side I just used WD 40 and fine steel wool. It took all of ten minutes (maybe less if I was not taking pictures) to do.

What is 303?

303 Aerospace Protectant. To bring the nice clean, matte finish back to the vinyl.

I used goof off and it took only 10 min for both

Easier yet.... I just removed the entire sun visor!

WillH 03-07-2015 02:08 AM

Acetone will remove the black paint under the sticker at the same time. Got tired of trying the alcohol... Now I have one bare plastic one
Alcohol rag and patience worked best for me.

I'm a real lucky guy. German delivered cars don't have that ugly sticker. :D ;)
