anybody looking for a 996 cluster?
Just saw this on eBay, $300 for a 996 cluster in good shape looks like a really good deal:
PORSCHE CARRERA 911 996 GAUGE CLUSTER FITS BOXSTER 986 | eBay
Disclaimer: I don't know anything about the seller and the product, I only saw it

Here seems to be another candidate:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
I just e-mailed the seller and he gave me the following additional info:
2002 996 Carrera 2
part number: 996.641.981.77
came from a convertible
further googling reveals that this a UK (like in United Kingdom) cluster, no idea if this makes a difference
http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/36187-cluster-part-number-identification/
like last time: I don't know the seller or know anything about the cluster

I have one from a 2000 996 Tiptronic if anyone is interested. I do know that everything works. I also have silver faces, new in the box, to match. I sold the car before installing it, but I did put it in to ensure it was working before I bought it. I never got around to changing out the faces.

Hi
I am looking for a cluster gauge in full working condition. I have a 996 Carrera4 coupe with Tiptronic. However I need the gauges to display kilometers instead of miles as I live in Norway. Do you know if both is default within the cluster panel ?
Porsche Norway has given me the following parts number I need: 9966411160370C

From what I understand, kilometers / miles is a change made on the unit itself, each one can display both. As for the other clusters, do they reset the mileage? Are they plug & play? Would they screw up state registrations that track mileage like NY?

Wouldn't care that it's red, I'd just want it to work for my era of the car.

Agreed, just buy some gauge faces on ebay and swap them out. Problem solved

I happen to like red, so out of place or not, I'd leave it alone and be content with the 996 cluster and not having to perfectly zero my needles.

The mileage is stored in the cluster. If you install a different cluster you need a shop like Palo Alto Speedometer to adjust the mileage
About your other questions: Look into Wayne's book, it's very nicely covered/explained there. general answer: Yes, but with a few caveats.
