Thinking of selling 02 S, what's it worth?

Hi, I'm undecided as to whether or not I'll sell my Boxster in the next month or so. It's been a perfectly reliable and fantastic car but I want to focus resources on my 968 project. Please let me know what you think the car is worth in case I decide to sell it - chances are currently 50/50. Thanks. :)

2002 Porsche Boxster S
Speed yellow/black leather
6 speed manual transmission
93k miles
Clean title and carfax

Options:
PSM
Cruise control
18" Turbo wheels
Heated sport seats with factory speed yellow painted backs
Factory speed yellow painted roll hoops, center console, and seat belts

Maintenance:
Service records for 15k, 30k, and 60k mile dealer services
New clutch, flywheel, RMS, IMS retrofit, water pump, spark plugs, air and pollen filters, tires, rear top window, transmission fluid, Motul 600 brake fluid, and latest version 04 coolant cap in past 10k miles
Mobil 1 and oil filter every 5k miles

Modifications:
5k miles on ROW M030 struts, springs, and sway bars
996 Litronics

Issues:
Light scratches on silver painted shift knob and driver's side door pull
Silver painted trim ring around shifter leather is bubbling
Menu toggle knob is broken on the gauge cluster

I'd ask $17k and expect to get $15k.

Very nice car and all the upgrades. How is the paint, the seats, and the rest of the interior...for me if all those were in great condition it would be worth a lot to me regardless of the mileage. That is a car ready to be DRIVEN! 15.5 to 18.

fivepointnine 10-19-2011 07:11 PM

just bought an 02 S, triple black, 64k miles, new waterpump, RMS (was not leaking) upgraded IMS bolts and clutch with nothing really wrong with it for 15.5...they really aren't selling real well up here now, definitely a buyers market

I have no idea but I did just buy a 2002 Base Box W/2.7 on Mon. of this week for $9,000.00 w/68k mile all maintenance done + new clutch, flywheel, waterpump,CV joints, wheel bearings and RMS, no IMS but original one was checked and was perfect.new tires and a 4 wheel alignment over $5,500.00 of work done and all the paper work to prove it. all the work done by a very well known loc. Indy shop.

The car is perfect, accept for rear window, it needs a new one,no big deal I can have it done for $350.00 this is a great time to buy a Box, but a real bad time to sell one.

I will post pics later this week. I have heard that a Box S sells for $4k above a base Box. hope this helps.

Wow prices are dropping...just bought my 2000 'S' last Nov. I need to check the Charlotte market again. I'm actually thinking of getting a 2002 base with high mileage to learn to track, looks like I should head north to look.

- Just checked prices in Charlotte...no drop here.

Part of the reason I got such a great deal is the seller was moving out of state and his wife had already moved into there new house two months ago. He had to to move out of the house he was in by the end of this week. He just kept on lowering the price on craigslist until someone bought it, that someone being Me.:)

+1 Blue2000s - ask $17K and take $15K. Its a bad economy and hence, a buyers market.

Highlow 10-20-2011 07:26 PM

Ask 15, expect 13.

fivepointnine 10-21-2011 04:12 AM

economy and coming into winter time has alot to do with it

Wow, if this is true, is there even a point to putting a wrench on a 98 with an IMS issue? One year from glass, which should have been in car one.

surf40 10-22-2011 11:24 AM

When you say "IMS retrofit", is this the LN IMS, or a OEM replacement?

Quickurt 10-22-2011 02:06 PM

My 2006S booked out at 29,900 for excellent condition private party.
It took 2 months to get 26,000 even.
Forum member bought it because he knew the car.

Sanford_yee 10-22-2011 03:44 PM

PM sent. Let me know if you want to sell

DFW02S 10-22-2011 07:32 PM

November issue of Excellence says a high of 17,700.
Whatta' they know?
Go ahead and get $19,000! :D

Take a look at this one: 2001 Porsche Boxster S

2001 S
<50k miles
$15,000
No mention of upgrades/maintenance/etc, but I would say the 43k mile difference makes up for that, although one could easily argue the opposite is true.

I'm not trying to be pessimistic, just realistic.

As we all know it is a buyers market right now. It seams especially on the west coast. These cars are going cheap. Start your advertised price where you think it is appropriate. If you plan to advertise on Craig's List as my wife and I did, I'd suggest revising your price no more than once per 2 week period. I think holding it for 2 weeks at the same price is better. It took us 3 full months to find a buyer for our '98 Base. I started at $9995 and gradually lowered my price to $8500. That was my rock bottom. I either get that or I keep enjoying the car. I got it even though we had to pass on many low ball offers. You just have to decide what it's realistic rock bottom price is to you. If you are not in a hurry to sell, hold out and enjoy the car some more. Good Luck.
