Where to get a Key made?
Does anyone in the Chicago area know where to get a key made? I need a spare, so I ordered a blank and key head from Sun Coast, not thinking it would even be a problem -- just thought I'd save a few bucks on the hardware.
I called Loeber but they say they can't cut or code keys, they just order them from the Porsche directly. Any ideas? |
I had the same problem, there was only one place that could cut them and that was the local AUDI dealer. All the dealers here in SoCal are owned by one company, and they only had one key machine, with one guy who knew how to use it. The key worked well, but it was a pain in the butt. Then, you need to program it to the car's immobilizer *and* the alarm module using the PST-2.

i think you'll have to go through Porsche for the programming. I did and they still couldn't program a new key for my 2001 Box - even after getting original and alternative codes from the Father-Land.

Well, after calling around a bit, Ed Napleton in Westmont claims to be able to cut / code a key. I have an appointment for this weekend. If nothing else, I'll get a nice drive out to the scenic suburban landscape.
For reference: Loeber & Joe Rizza both say they can't do it. |
Let us know how it goes and how you felt about the service. I have an issue with the keyless entry buttons not working on my keys for my 2000 boxster. Westmont would be my local dealership but I haven't dealt with them yet. Thanks.

Service team was very professional, took about 30 minutes, including the complementary car wash. The hardest part was waiting in the showroom with all of those fine cars. Luckily Notre Dame sucking up the field kept me preoccupied. |

Just realized that a key without the alarm remote is a bit annoying -- I guess this won't be my primary key -- see attached Owner's Manual snip. I set off the alarm twice already! I'm not quick enough on the draw.
