leather sun visor

Are the optional leather visors covered with that same ugly yellow warning label?

If it's the law, they would have to be, right?

Brucelee 06-30-2005 06:30 AM

I have never tried this but shouldn't those labels be removable with say, goo gone or the like?

Porschekid 06-30-2005 06:38 AM

I think that they are stamped on there. That's why people sell decals to cover them up.

deliriousga 06-30-2005 06:51 AM

There are covers available that go over the labels. I can't remember what vendors stock them, but I have seen them on eBay. They stick on the visor over the ugly label.

Those airbag covers are nothing but pebble finish vinyl cut out to fit the space that can be purchased at most crafts store for a buck or two... call around to see if your local craft stores have some. It might not be a bad idea to just drop by an auto upholstry shop, ask them to look at the plastic and see if they have any vinyl to match it and buy it as a scrap for a couple of bucks—and they'll probably just give it to you for free.

Some heat resistant spray-based glue will affix them no problem.

These certainly are not worth the $15 plus s/h charged on Ebay!

those yellow lable can be taken off... take the 4 sides with tape so u dont get goo gon on the leather...

then hair dryer. for about 10 min .. apply goo gon... let it sit for 10 min .. then u should slowly be able to peel the edges off... then slowly the whole thing will come off as a piece of thin rubberish film.....

Ronzi 06-30-2005 07:57 AM

... and thirty years from now some collector/restorer will be cussing the previous owner that removed those labels, thereby compromising the "originality" of his now-classic Boxster.

If I do it wrong, can I make a mess and permanently damage the leather?

Does the same process work on the vinyl visor?

On my vinyl visors, I used the rubbing alcohol approach:

Here seems to be a good discussion of the various ways of removal

airbag labels

On the mirror side I just painted over the label with black semigloss spray paint. On the other side I used denatured alcohol. You use a paper towel to let the alcohol soak the label and then peel it off.

Hmm... I should've thought to do that. I was lazy and bought the cover ups off of eBay. Randall's right--it's just a laser-cut vinyl sticker like any sort, but the price isn't completely unreasonable for it.

tqtran 06-30-2005 10:45 AM

I got the cover-ups too. I never put them on. They were cheap so I would say don't worry that you didn't take the decal off by hand. Just remember that you can always take the cover-ups off but you can't put the original decal back on ;)

SoCal 06-30-2005 06:02 PM

Does anyone have a picture of the leather visors?

Are you sure that the leather visors come with labels?

Or that on the leather the labels are not permanent and can't just be peeled off?

Why haven't you put them on? I was sooooo stoked when I got them, those airbag stickers bug the crap out of me! You'll be quite pleased with how they turn out!

There's a bunch of pictures of leather visors in various threads over at rennteam.com. One guy in south africa showed his and they didn't come with airbag stickers, lucky guy!

It's bad to look at other people's cars though. I get very jealous when I see all the leather... argh.
