New To Me Boxster

This past Tues, I purchased a 2000 Boxster with just under 59K miles. The IMS has been done along the the RMB. The question I have is what is the difference between a 986 and 987?? My car has the 2.7L engine with 5 speed tiptronic transmission. This car had only 2 previous owners, one for a little over 3 yrs and the last owner kept it for about 7 years and traded it on a newer Porsche. So far, even though I have put less than 200 miles on it. I love this car!!!!

Shift safely,

Alex

goes something like this

1st generation Boxster: 986 (1996 Europe, 1997 USA - 1999)
2.5 (no S model option yet)

2nd generation Boxster: 986 and 986 S
2.7 and 3.2 (2000 - 2004)

3rd Generation Boxster: 987, 987 S (2005 - present) and 987S Boxster Spyder (20011 - present)
2.7, 3.2 and 3.4

The Cayman is also classified as a 987 adn 987 S.

Garage
A quick wikipedia search will generally solve all these kinds of questions :P

But whats the difference? About +50 hp and +200-300 lbs lol. And a slight body work change. The original 1997 2.5L boxster made about 201 bhp. The 2011 boxster S makes about 290ish lol
