new Boxster owner- engine light on :(
 

Hey guys.. new member here and a new owner of a 2000 boxster (black) with 35K miles.

I put about 500 miles on it and now the engine light is on, with that there seemed to be a lower power output at 3K RPM and up. The engine codes that came up were 1133 and 1127 which reads as Manufacturer Controlled fuel air ratio..

After research over the weekend it seems 3 things could be causing it..

1.ever-popular MAP sensor
2.Vacuum leak in the evap system
3. any combination of the (4) O2 sensors

my idea is to replace the MAP sensor first about 200 bucks.. then see what happens.. think thats the right start?

You could do the MAf (mass air flow) not MAP, we don't have map sensors, and all four 02s and you should be fine. But it is $$ if you could get somebody to narrow it down it would be best. If it turns out to be on of the 02s I personally would change all four in stead of just the one. If you have to do the the 02s you can do it your self if you feel for much less than Porsche. I think the buildable sensors from napa are about 90 dollars each. Other wise you could order from birtsmith porsche or sunset in cali. Both have great prices.

Unplug the maf sensor electrical connection and drive the car. If it feels better, maf is your problem.

I don't understand why people suggest replacing all 4 o2 sensors at once. The downstream sensors see completely different gasses than the upstream and will have much longer service life.

Blue, replacing all four keeps the sensitivity levels consistent for the computer. If you replace just one, your car will throw a CE code. My mechanic replaced one of my failed ones with a working used one for this reason until I could save enough to get four new ones and replace them all myself.

The possibility that all 4 O2 sensors r done....unlikely
I did the same thing ur thinking.bought new MAF
codes came back
did more research on this forum
Checked 4 air leaks...
did the AOS...problem solved

Air oil Separator or Pain in the ass to change. :)

While the motor is running, and warmed-up, remove the oil fill cap. Is it difficult to remove? Does it sound like a shop vac? Do the RPM’s drop and motor idle very rough (almost dies)? If so, you have a bad AOS.
