DIY defrost cable

Hey all

Its starting to be colder already here in the morning. So this morning the glass windows of my top was frosted a little (Boxster 2000 S , not original top with a glass window). I put on the defrost and the mirrors defrosted but not the rear window. Took a look at it, and there is no wire from the window and nothing connected to the defrost plug.

So after looking on the net, I found a defrost harness for 160$:o at Gahw top. Wow thats a lot for 2 wire and 3 connectors! I need to change the top in spring anyway and its comming with a wiring harness so I dont want to pay that right now and have it free with the top in spring.

Any DIY writing about a defrost harness?

Thanks
wawa

You could always put a frost shield on the glass if it's just for one winter. That's if you can still buy them - haven't seen them for a few years, come to think of it.

Defrost harness

I picked up some 10 g wire and connectors at auto parts store today- looks easy enough. Will write back.

Yes, with wire gauges and connectors used, and I thought it was here on this forum, but a search for defroster didn't pop up the thread. I think the original poster said they built it for less than $10 and it worked real well. If I come across it again, I'll post it here.

If you search for hardtop install, the instructions should show where the rear window defrost wire outlet is located. The outlet is in all Boxsters and is under a small black plastic cover behind the driver's roll bar. It shouldn't be difficult to fabricate a small "jumper" wire to connect this outlet to your rear window defrost plug.
