Is a PDK Tranny Track Worthy for just several D.E. events per year?
Is a PDK Tranny Track Worthy for just several D.E. events per year?
I know I'm going to hear hell for this question but I'm looking for a dual purpose Porsche to be used as a daily driver in the city with traffic and also be able to take to the track and do several Driver's Ed events per year. In the past, I have had two cars. A every day normal car but a not so much fun daily driver and a weekend Porsche but I wanted to use the Porsche more often. Question: Can the PDK cars be that dual purpose car that I have been looking for? |
Yes, it is that good. Quite an amazing piece of kit that PDK. If you abuse it can you break it? As with all transmissions, yes you can.
|
I'll have a PDK in my next Porsche, and I want to drive it much the same way you do.
I've heard nothing but good things about it. |
Two weeks ago I drove a 2011 Cayman R, a 2011 Panamera Turbo S, and a 2011 997 Carrera 4S -all with PDK - on a Porsche NA autocross course. The PDK is nice (for a manumatic) but I'd still take a standard manual anyday.
With that being said; can you get by with a PDK for occasional track days? Yes, of course. |

I wish we could transplant a PDK in a 986, I would like that.
My next P-car will be a PDK. |
How do PDK and Tip compare? Obviously the newer technology likely makes PDK superior but in what ways?
|
Totally different animals.
The PDK is a twin clutch automated manual transmission the tip is an automatic transmission. The PDK has two clutches, the Tip has a torque converter. Read here to get more info on the PDK. http://www.porsche.com/microsite/technology/default.aspx?pool=uk&ShowSingleTechterm=PTPDopKuGe &Category=&Model=&SearchedString=&SelectedVariant= PMTBoxsterAll |
