Mine does the exact same thing and its at the mechanic as we speak. I'll know for sure by then end of the day but when he heard it he thought it may be something with the oil pump or something. I can't remember exactly what he said but when I do find out I'll let you know.

Usually a loud screeching on start-up would be a slipping belt. Your Boxster has only one...serpentine belt.

if it is the grinding sound, like a starter, that is what it is. on these cars the little shaft that starts the motor is slow to retract causing it to grind.

Mine was making a screeching noise that I was certain was the serp belt.

Nope, AOS getting ready to croak and it did a day later with great plumes of smoke.

With the car cold, take the serp belt off and start the car (don't run it for more than a minute or two). If no screech, then its something driven by the belt, possibly waterpump, check WP pulley for play.

Yes and my 2.7 / 2002 rattles like crazy for 1 to 2seconds if i have not used her for a day.changed the oil from Mobil W0/40 to Shell Ultra helix W5/40 but no difference.
With 62.000 km(Australia)you would not think that it could be dirty chain tensioners
or maybe.Has anybody experienced a similar problem.please let me know. I joined this forum few months ago and its a fantastic site, loving it. Cheers Werner
