What can I expect to get for my car?
I have a '99 boxster which had a retail for about $50K.
48,000 miles Tip Sport Package 17" Wheels Windstop Remote Alarm Porsche Crest Power Seat Package Aluminum Gauges Metallic Dark Blue Replaced Soft Top after 4 Years Replaced engine under warranty I would like to know what I can expect if I sell it myself via cars.com or autotrader, etc... Located in Tampa, FL I went to carmax and they offered me $17K, which I thought was ridiculously low, but I want to be sure my expectations aren't out of line. |
selling your Porsche
In the NW you can probably get in the low $20,000's. $17,000 is about right for a wholesale price.

Please let me clarify, what should I expect if I sell it myself?

I'd say around $22K with the miles and basic options you have.

Here is a technique to use.
Go to www.autotrader.com. Do a search on your year and model number in a area of say 100 miles from you. Select as many cars from this search as you can that are comparable to you car in miles, options. etc. Toss out cars that clearly do not belong in data, ie Porsche dealer cars, odd colors, options that are inappropriate. What you are looking for is what other private parties are charging for a car similar to your own. with emphasis on miles and color. Assume that you will realize towards the bottom of that range and you should have an idea. Out here in SOCAL, you car might bring $20K but it would depend on condition, as it always does. |
Just for a Tampa reference, about 3 months ago, when I was thinking of upgrading to a 987, Reeves offered me 18K for my 2000S with 35K miles (at the time). Now, I had had a hood and front bumper replaced when a pickup backed into me, but Dave White gave the car a clean bill of health (full inspection including suspension, transmission, etc). Reeves said that anything with a repaint loses value and that without the repairs they would have offered 21K. They also suggested that if I sold it myself I couldn't expect more than 25K. I bought it in March 2004 for 30K.
Whereabouts in Tampa are you? |
