Just did the de-snorkel trick!

Wow! What a difference, the sound is incredible! The car also seems move drivable, it used to have 2 awkward spots, for lack of a better term, where the car would shake if I let off of the throttle. My 97 also had a baffle in front of the snorkel that I hadn't seen in the desnorkel pictures. Is that a 97 only thing? I had to rip it out to get to the snorkel.

I hear you can save a bunch of weight too by getting rid of that snorkeler!!

No comment on the last post . If you think you have a performance bump by removing the "silencer", I installed an EVO intake that’s replaces the restrictive OEM air box. My S breathes easy now.

You'll hear pros and cons about intake temps but if you seal the block off panels correctly your engine will be drawing air like a jet engine at MRT!

Has anyone ever looked at the Snorkel as a velocity stack rather than a sliencer?

Porsche would not put it on there without a reason, If it were US regulations on pollution or sound, you would not see them on Euro cars.

My guess... they noticed that the airbox was restrictive and to make up for that, they put on a velocity stack.

Easy cheap reliable fix.

Take it off and it is louder, but not more power. Acutally less. It has been shown with dyno that removing the tube lowers low end torque BUT help with high end HP.

I am not one to talk, I have taken it off, removed the air box, and made a custom intake with a velocity stack and I am now happy. However, at the end of the day, I wish I would have stayed with the stock setup. Cheap and easy to care for.

Even if it cost 20hp I think it'd be worth it. The sound is that good

It is a sound abatement device to comply with anticipated noise level legislation in europe, particularly switzerland.

The Boxster is a world platform and so Porsche used it on all models rather than designing and manufacturing a separate piece for the US market. Similar to many other pieces in the car such as rear fog lights, etc.

Cheers!
