Cylinder not firing??
 

I have a 2002 Boxster, without any mods, with 53k on the odometer. I bought it about a month and a half ago. During that time, and before today, it ran and drove just fine.

When I went to move it today, the check-engine light started blinking, then glowed steady. And jnudging from the way it was running, it was clear to me that one of the cylinders was not firing.

Anyone else have this problem before? Any ideas what it might be?

Welcome to the forum.

So, most of the responses right off the bat will be:
1. Get a code reader from AutoZone or other parts store and read the codes that are present that caused the CEL. Once you have it, post the code.
2. Flashing light = Do NOT drive!

Could be simple. Spark plug ou spark plug coil. When it happened to me it was a coil.
You need to read the code with a scan tool and post it here.

If the blinking CEL turned solid...
 

... you probably have a lose coil pack connector.
When it was lose you had a misfire, the CEL blinks.
When it's making contact the CEL goes solid.
Check all 6 connectors and get a code reader to clear the codes after it's fixed.

Don't be surprised if its not a coil pack. There are several other reasons to have a misfire (or what seems to be a misfire). That is why reading out the code is critical - so you can be sure to address the right problem and not go about it blindly.

I picked up a code reader today, and I got this reading back: P0306

The manual indicates that this is a cylinder 6 misfire.

Any other recommendations?
