Headlights with Xenon bulbs good or bad?? 2000 Boxster
 

Good Day Everyone,

So I just purchased a 2000 Boxster, and it had the yellowing and even burnt holes through the glass of the headlights. I just order new OEM clear 2004 headlights and was thinking of installing XENON bulbs, but was worried about burning out the new headlight lense...??? Any thoughts???

How much did you get them for and where?
My headlights are the same, Yellow burnt color lens.
I'd really like to change them out.

As for your question, I think they are fine but stay away from the high wattage ones.
I'm thinking 55w and under will be fine.

Ordered them from BimmerSpecialist.com for about $570 a side. I always thought XENON ran hotter!!! Worries I'll burn out the lense.

If anyone is looking for a very nice set of clear headlights, I have a set of clear halogens for sale that are in very good condition (they were only used for 2 short Minnesota summers). I've been planning to list them on eBay, but I'd sell them for $650 plus shipping on this forum. They will be shipped in the OEM boxes that they came in when I bought them.
I chose to buy this set new because I did not want to buy a set that looked 'sandblasted' or that were yellowing like many used lights out there. I have not seen many CLEAR halogen sets on eBay (mostly used Litronics or the old orange style, and Litronics prices have gone up for a nice set). I am sure someone could buy a cheaper set, but they won't look as good as these.
These lights will fit any Boxster from 1997 to 2004.

Not sure about xenon bulbs and yellowing other than posts like these. I would think if they are the same wattage, there shouldn't be a problem. These lights have the OEM bulbs now but I used Silverstar Ultras when they were on my car, which were a little 'whiter' in color temp.

I own a 2003 Boxster S and installed by myself a set of HID 35 w Xenon bulb and ballast 2 years ago and my lens are like new, no yellow color appear on lens. The Hid bulb are known to operate at lower temp then Halogen one, so less risk for your lens.

You may need to clarify what part you purchased,...
 

It is my understanding that there are clear halogen lights that resemble the litronic lights and the true litronic lights that use the xenon bulbs and have a separate ballast setup and reflector that makes these true HID lights. You can run "xenon" bulbs in halogen lights to give the imitation of true xenon/HID lights but it is typically nothing more than a tinted bulb that gives the bluish cast. Without the reflectors and ballast setup of the true HID/xenon's, you are basically tinting the color spectrum of the light output and running at the hotter temperatures of the traditional halogen bulbs. There are aftermarket conversions to the halogen setups that will approximate or possibly surpass the factory HID setup.

35 watt output HID equals less heat generated
versus 55 watt halogens
I bought new headlights after original owner yellowed
the lenses with 100 watt h7 bulbs
put HID in the low beam last year
this year I did the fog lights in HID
no yellowing...adds an updated look to car
very happy with HID lights on car
especially @ night

Hey thanks for everyone's input.

I tend to stay away from the HID kits....I've had power issues with them on my bike, and my buddy is having issues with them on his FORD Lightning. They look amazing, and as mentioned give that newer style look to your wheels.

MN 986...very good price and I'm sure they will sell in a heart beat. Wish I would have known a few days ago.

Arrgghhhhh so I go and order H7 XENON white bulbs at 55watts thinking I only needed 2 per side.... New headlights come in today and I see I need 3 per side.

I got the same light bulbs for all three. All H7's. And it works.
