reliability of 05 vs. other early years

recent consumer report shows the 05 to have average repair record with black dots on minor/major engine issues...is it because it was a new model that year that it seems not to be as reliable as other earlier years?

That's what I've read on other posts and in following Consumers for years. Might even depend on manufacture dates.
