Does anyone know how to get a 1999 service repair manual?

I recently purchased a 1999 Boxster and would like to do some of the maintenance on my own. Any suggestions on manuals? Anyone else try this or does everyone take it to the dealer?
Thanks! Mike

Manuals

First off congratulations on your Boxster. I bought a '99 last May myself.

As for the factory workshop repiar manual, you can buy it from http://www.my-porsche.com.

Part Number: WKD-483-521
986, Boxster (includes "S") 15 Volumes
$451.41

I have had all servicing done by qualified Porsche mechanics/dealers though.

Oil change, brake job and such are pretty easy to do on these cars, but I just don't have the time to mess with that, so I go the dealer route or qualified independent Porsche mechanic.

I do all the maintenance on my 1997 since it is long out of warranty. There is no aftermarket manual like Haynes or Chilton, only the factory one which is not really for a DIYer. The factory one is in 15 binders and a supplement comes out every 2 months or so. You might be able to find it on a cd. My-Porsche has a great list of publications on their site but their prices are full retail - so shop around. My parts guy told me Porsche is not going to print more shop manuals until there are 100 orders btw. Jeff

I bought a manual on CD from Ebay not long ago. It looks like it contains OEM information and diagrams, and I sometimes see identical diagrams posted on this forum. Was very cheap.

I downloaded these some time ago. They are very comprehensive. I also got the 101 book from pelican and the Bentley manual. Add the Durametric to that and you got yourself most of the arsenal. The folks on this forum fit the missing piece and make it complete.

Just curious. Why would you want the Porsche repair manual and pay 450 for it. Is there something in there that are missing elsewhere?

I see that service manuals are available for the 986 models. Is there anything available for the 987 models (2005+)?
