Impending AOS problem?
2 Attachment(s)
Looks like my AOS has a film of oil all over it. Is this normal disharge or I am in for trouble? I am not sure my hands are small enough to get in there and change it. How do you guys do it??

Have you been driving in the swamps again??
What the heck is that on your motor? I have not seen this before... I've seen a little dust but nothing like that... Is that a greenish tint I see? Jager |
yes the JK machine has just come back from a desert mission.... hence the my post regarding proper proceedures for an engine shampoo

oil misting in the top part of the AOS is a sign that the AOS is leaking. Also if the throttle body has a build up of oil in it you should get ready to replace it. It really is not that hard, you would be surprised. maybe an hour of work.
The final sign for me to change it was going from no oil consumption to having to add a quart of oil before an oil change. This happened twice before I finally changed it. Now it is back to normal, with no oil usage between changes. |
A real easy way to check if your AOS is leaking is to try and remove the oil filler cap with the engine idling - if the cap is difficult to remove, ie there is a vacuum holding it closed, there is a good chance that you have an AOS replacement in your near future....
