Fixed three things on my Porsche today- felt good!!! Small things yes... BUT I fixed: My drivers side door handle ( I posted a few weeks ago how it was opening from the inside but not from the outside) I pulled the door panel off and airbag out of the door and there was a cheap little female part that came apart from the door handle. Once I had the panel off, it was a 2 minute fix. Happy not to have to roll my window down with my key and open the door from the inside now - EMBARRASSING! My washer fluid pump! I found a lot of charts but NONE of them indicated that the pump was in the actual washer fluid reservoir. It was a slight pain in the ass having to rip that thing out and get the new pump in it, but NOW I can wash my windshield- Imagine that... Lastly I replaced the corner plastics in my headlights. They were both cracked and just looked very unattractive, so I ordered a pair from eBay (80 bucks later- yikes) That said- Im happy with the progress I made on the car today- these things have been bugging me! I did all of this on top of building a 7x10.5' Rubber maid shed in the back yard... ! Time for a DRINK! |

Not a little thing, but the alternator/battery light came on the first day I brought the Box out of winter storage. Battery was on a maintainer all winter, so I guess the alternator is toast...ordered a replacement voltage regulator, so I guess I'll be experiencing the DIY alternator R&R; Pelican has an excellent write-up. Nice way to start the driving season...car has 19K miles on it. |

How old is the battery and what type is it? I've never used a maintainer before. Do they give you some sort of indication that the battery is in good shape? Just curious since you are on to the alternator. Thanks, ddb |

Battery is four years old, factory Moll. I'll likely replace it when I do the voltage regulator and it won't be another overpriced OEM unit. The maintainer will switch on when the voltage drops to a predetermined level and bring the battery up to full power. Porsche doesn't sell the voltage regulator separately, but a little research shows the same unit is used by VW, Audi and MB in their Bosch units. More of a PITA to R&R the alternator, than to actually swap the regulator. |
