Center console lock?

Hey everyone, GREAT website. My wife thought I had issues when I owned a 300Z, she's ready to leave me now that I got a Boxster! You're all a very supportive and informative bunch and I look forward to learning more and more about my new baby.

I picked up a Boxter that the original owner added the arm rest and cup holder add-on to the back of the center console. It was a sub par job to say the least. I just dismantled it and got it back to normal. However, he had removed the original lock and I am left with a hole in teh console. Am I able to pick up a replacement lock for the stock console? It looks fairly chewed up, so I wasn't sure what my options are.

I was also curious how easy it is to remove the CD/Tray area below the stereo. I believe it's referred to as a "Console Delete"? Are there any surprises back there? Am I in need of a panel to push wiring up? Will there be any carpet issues?

OR

Has anyone done a custom "Bass Sub" addon in that area for the stereo system? Possible a mini-tube?

Lemmie see if I can take a shot at answering your questions:

1. The center console lock can be ordered from the dealership, but it must be keyed to your car. That could be expensive. Call the parts department and ask.

2. If you want to remove the cubby hole pocket under the stereo head unit, just grab it and pull.

3. If you want to remove the CD tray, that's not something I have in my car, so another person can reply to you... but I do know it's not called the "console delete" because that's where there is nothing below the stereo except carpeting. I did see a kit online somewhere (sorry I can't remember it right now) that converts a console to a non-console like the older 911's.

Sub woofers and mini-tubes can certainly be put behind the seats or in the passenger wheel well, but it's always a space sacrifice. Real estate is at a premium in our cars.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Randall. I am contacting the dealer today on the lock. I'm also researching the bass box for under the stereo. I'll let the forum know if I come across anything.
