Gps antenna

What is a good place to mount gps antennas without being visible and spoiling the look of the car? I was thinking one could mount them in the rear bumperettes especially if you are going to have a cable run for a back up cam.....they look like natural radomes.

Maybe front bumper? Inside the car??

There is space for the antenna beneath the black cover that houses the LED for the security system. It seems like a good location because it is adjacent to the windshield at the center of the dash.

The tricky part is running the wire down through the dash. You need to pull up the defroster trim to access two screws that hold the LED carrier in place.

You can see the assembly through the windshield from outside of the car after you remove the black cover. Unfortunately, you cannot see the screws while you are working. You have to remove the two screws by feel, then the LED carrier can be lifted out of the way to make a path for the antenna wire and fitting. The concern I had was that it would be very easy to drop the screws down the defroster duct.

Good luck.

Front Dash

I ran the line under the dash so that it exited through the driver's side speaker housing, and mounted it 6" from the speaker. Very inconspicuous.

Had to trim the housing a bit, so that it didn't pinch the cable.

My aftermarket GPS antenna is hidden under the black plastic panel in front of the windshield wipers, which is the "stock" location. Completely invisible and works great. Installation procedure (with photos) is covered on http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-boxster-electronics/.

I also mounted my antenna under the plastic trim for the wipers. Very simple to do and out of the way, and my reception is excellent. Just ran the cable through the rubber grommet in bulkhead access port and zip tied cables to keep it tidy.

I'm glad it helped. I was surprised to see how long ago I did this. I think the scratches on my hands caused by rubbing against the defroster trim didn't completely heal until about a month.
