Strange sound from Left rear of car, now with Video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRA2xxrovr8
I made a previous inquiry about a strange grinding down from the left rear side of my 986 a week ago. I took it to the local trust indy porsche shop and had failed transmission mounts ID'ed. The mounts were indeed gone and I had them replaced, but it turned out it wasn't the main culprit. The sound is most appears when the car has fully warmed up and occurs at low speeds between 5 and 30 mph. The sound is very clear in the video. I had to the shop this past weekend again but couldn't recreate the situation. With the shop being super busy I decided to just let it go and enjoy the rest of the spring weather weekend. Any help is appreciated! |
Seems to be suspension related since you can recreate the sound by pushing on the body. Did you try that with the engine off?
|
Yes, it occurs with the engine shut off as well.

Sounds like a control arm to me, my friend! |
Ps
PS- Stop shagging in your car and maybe the suspension would have held up a little longer  lol
|
Shagging is not possible in a Boxster. 911..maybe..., if both are extremely flexible.
Edit: Ok, maybe it's possible with the roof down... LOL. Anyways, it was indeed the control arm, just had it replaced as well as well as the longer arm on the left. Car is getting aligned at the moment, as we speak. |
