DRL hack on 987s
 

I have questions about the Daytime Running Lights hack for the 987s Boxster.
Is it possible?
Is the wiring the same?
Does it turn on all lights (heads,tails,markers...) that would on if dark or the switch was turned on?
I know from other cars that DRL mostly means a special light in the headlight cluster and nothing else. My 987s has the Xenon headlights and what appears to be a halogen hi-beam. I am pretty sure that it would not be a good idea to DRL either bulb as it would cost someting to replace. Is it possible to DRL the fog lamps in the front bumper (if it is not already that way)?

Do not quote me because I have not been paying a great deal of attention. I seem to remember this issue on a 997 board, and someone said with the new 2005 cars this feature can be turned on with the PIWIS. This was not the case with 996/986. When I get a chance I'll ask Peter if this is true.

I found it.

The PCM has the ability to set the mode for the key user. I was able to turn it on and the only down side is that it does turn on the Main head lights which are the Xenon bulbs. I was hoping to turn on the Fogs instead so I do not burn out the headlights (and the more important set of bulbs) sooner.
I was also able to set the door locking conditions as well, I thought I'd have to go to the dealer for that one.

Tool Pants - Thanks for the link, it has the same information.

I was suprised to read the post about not using the DRL. I have in more that one case been able to better judge the distance of an on-coming car when passing on a 2 lane hi-way.
I also live in California where we now have a law to turning on the headlights when the wipers are on. This last year being the 2nd wettest in history was proof that most people do not obey the law.
DRLs help by letting people not worry about the issue since the headlights are always on.
