Porsches are pretty common in my neck of the woods, actually I counted five in my previous condo complex alone (2 Boxsters, 1 Cayman, 2 Cayennes). Both Cayennes were driven by women. As a matter of fact two previous women I dated both had white Cayennes. Can't name a single woman I've ever known who owned a Boxster.

But generally speaking I just don't see women driving any convertibles. They all want Range Rovers, X5's or Cayennes. To go with their Iphones, Louis Vouiton bags and UGG boots... Around here women all want to copy each other...otherwise its like they feel left out of the club.

9 Porsches in our condo.
3 Cayennes (one turbo) all driven by women
2 911's. owned by the same guy. one is 997 the other is 993
and 4 boxsters.
my 01 S. a 99 base. a 08 special addition. and an 03 S, owned by a girl.
she wanted to buy an air cooled 911, but quickly understood its not gonna be practical for here. so she got the PDK boxster.

Most women I see drive Jeep Wranglers including my wife. She has the top off all summer long, on the Jeep that is. :). 33 inch tires, 3 inch lift kit, and it had to be red. When she earned her Masters degree I decided to celebrate and buy her a new car. I proposed BMW, Jag, Cadilac, or Porsche but all she wanted was a Jeep so we bought her a new red one. It worked out great for me. She won't drive my Boxster but she loves to ride in it. The jeep is fun too, in the mountains.

That is true but it took a few years. Imagine how many pages it will have in a couple more. :)

Hi have to agree that I’ve had more derogatory remarks made since owning this car then any others. I love driving it the most but boy people take issue that you are driving a Porsche or they think a $10K car makes you part of the 1% that they despise. For some reason when I had my Z3 which I purchased when it was a 2 year lease trade-in and not a 13 year old car always received positive and interesting conversations with people from all walks of life interested in the car and always complementary. I only had my friends busting me all the time that it was a chick car. The Box I’m not getting the chick car comment just the hey a-hole nice Porsche from across the street or cars at stop lights yelling out the window. I tend to drive like an old lady on the road so they should be saying those things because I was running them off the road or racing down the streets. I save that for the track.

Can't say I've ever had anyone tell me mine was a "chick car".

Sure, someone made a comment behind my back that it wasn't a "real Porsche" (said guy probably didn't even own a car, I think). The other weekend as I was coming back from St. Augustine with my SO, I changed lanes (signal used) and the guy behind me then (60-70ft.) high-beamed me, and when he went by (after I had stopped at the light in the turn lane) he leaned out the window and yelled "You're a ****ing idiot!". And I was behaving myself then, too.

I do get compliments on occasion, and have received more of those than negative remarks. A few weeks back a 997 coupe pulled up next to me at the offramp from I-295, and complimented (which was reciprocated). His was a similar grey to mine.

I don't see many women in Boxsters. The only two I recall is one in a yellow 986 near my neighborhood, and one in a silver 987 at my old office building. The only woman I know with a Boxster is my mother, and her's is a manual.

A friend of mine used to rib me about driving a New Beetle convertible (turbo), but when I told him I bought a Boxster he approved.

I may have been behind you on rt 91 North a week ago on a Saturday morning around noon. I was driving my Ford Explorer behind a nice blue S for a few miles. I was confused why someone was driving near the speed limit in the right hand lane on such a nice day. I had to get going so I passed and took off.

Nice S though!

Funny, That is all my wife wanted for a toy vehicle. She got her Jeep Wrangler Sport last spring. Soft top all summer, Hard top Thanksgiving to April Fools Day.

When my wife bought me the Boxster S I was so happy like a new father. Afterwards I came to realize that the envy that exists in our society is rampant. Where I worked the owner of the business insulted or berated me about the car on a daily basis since I was 55 yrs old. Then it was the midlife crisis geniuses turn to insult me. One of the best pulled over on the Long Island Expressway , due to a fender bender a car full of yuppies laughed at my predicament. There is a sweet revenge to it all as I told the puerto rican boss I had when the company went belly up the following " Hey guess what I still own my Boxster as his car was repossed. Moral of story " enjoy your Boxster forget what the other s***heads will be saying because it will certainly be not nice.

wow. that's too bad. I've gotten dozens of nice comments. Being in New Jersey and all it's always surprising to me.

I have a few friends who claimed it was the chick car too. I quizzed them on their knowledge of the 550 Spyder, a mid engine purpose built roadster, and how it was designed specifically to win races for Porsche. They'd never heard of the 550...
That seems to be the theme with folks who call it a chick car, they really don't know much about the brand.

Never experienced this. My Dark Mistress was even red neck approved! I was on my way to the track and got caught up in some stop and go traffic. I had a couple good old boys pull along side me in their rig and say: "Nice"....."dat don sound stack"..I responded: "yah a little of this and little of that". The fellows responded with a yeeeeeah! and went on their way

Mind you the car has a pretty wide stance, black metallic, flat black by-pass exhaust that snaps and crackles like crazy...

Seriously? You claim to have good ole boys in Toronto? I'm calling BS. :p ;)

Come on down to Georgia and we'll disabuse you of that misconception right away! :).

In my experience, changing the exhaust is the answer from going to a chicks car to a man-approved car. Give the doubters a few loud revs and they change their minds

Yes sir I have no doubt!

As I recall I was on the out skirts and the rig actually had a Georgia tag.....but then again I had my 'cheap sunglasses' on :D

The Miata is the classic chicks sports car.

I might be the biggest wuss of all time having a Boxster, a Mini Cooper, and a Miata in the driveway. My wife is clearly the man of the house in her BMW 325i.
