strange noise boxster 2.5 '98

Hi, yesterday after a long ride i noticed a strange noise from the rear right side of the car. its coming from behind the rear right intake. it sound like a frieing pan baking fries or something. the car runs fine, temperature is oke, coolandcap is fine, when taking the oilcap of, the inner tube jumps out like it suposed to do. any ideas?

thanx.

Does the noise change with speed (wheels, brakes, transaxle, CV joints) or RPM (motor)?

pec 03-18-2011 01:53 PM

yes, at higher rpm the noise increases, engine runs fine further.

Ok maybe I was not clear. Hard to tell from you description so far. If the car is sitting still in neutral and you rev the motor do you get the noise or only while the car is moving? Does the noise increase as the car increases speed?

when sitting still and you turn up the rpm then it increases, im not sure whilst driving, can't hear that. sounds like something came loose, like a pulley or something. car is going to porsche shop tomorrow, monday i'll know more.

it was the waterpump making the noise, they'll replace it incl 3 pulleys and a new belt. 900 euros..
:(
