Someone asked me if the ACLU or similar type of organization is involved in defending folks. The answer is it's the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) located in San Francisco.
They work on a pro bono basis and have more asks for help than they can handle; in part because of all the Righthaven suits. This means they try to take the more promising ones that can hopefully set precedents. Unfortunately their case load was full so I was referred by the EFF to a group of intellectual property gurus - Ridder, Costa, and Johnstone, who served as my attorneys. They took my case because I was willing to fight and they thought I had some compelling arguments. Reality set in when Righthaven brought in a "new set" of lawyers who indicated they were going to be just as obstinate as I was. Many legal arguments & counterarguments were traded - it became clear that Righthaven wanted to have a precedent case as well - and they'd have been happy to have it been my case. Also note my previous post about additional liability to others being potentially dragged into this. After toting up the figures to go all the way to the 9th circuit court I decided I had better settle. RKwei |
Just heard from the lawyers that since both parties signed the settlement papers that Righthaven has formally dismissed the case against 986forum and myself in Nevada federal court.

RKwei,
Thanks for the updates and allowing us to help. Glad to hear it is all over! ddb |

Good news! :) :) |
BTW - have to throw a bit of politics in this - I asked if I should contact my state rep and senator for help, since I'm a taxpayer.
Answer: Absolutely not - they always stay away from Federal cases ..... |
Small contribution on its way.
|
Sent. Thanks for everything.
|
Once again - Thanks everyone!

Contribution sent. We'd miss the forum if it was gone.

I really enjoy the Porsche part of the website and I am sorry for your troubles but you can keep your political views to yourselves. It figures that the source of the problem would be the lounge. So I am glad that your politics did not ruin a good source of Porsche knowledge. Maybe there is a lesson here...
Another country heard from! :) |

I love the color or your car. Custom or Porsche color? |
I'm sorry for what you guys have gone through, but...
... thanks so much for posting.
I wasn't aware of what was going on. You may have saved me a lot of aggravation as well. Contribution on the way. Happy Boxstering, Pedro |
Bastards!

Porsche color. They did a limited run of 250 orange Boxsters. Still love the color after 3+ yrs. It reminded me of Calypso Coral on the 1970 Mustang Mach 1. |

Over the top cool! I would buy one of those in a NY minute. Good stuff! :) |
Contribution coming from my off-shore account ! By the way, what does the phrase "a New York minute" mean ? And how is it different from any other minute ?
|
As I understand it, everything in NY is "faster and more intense!"
At least, that is what I have heard. |

Just made my donation as well. Folks, don't just read this thread, contribute something for the best doggone Porsche forum on the web!
|

never been tempted to ever donate to any site but donating here is a no brainer. i've already saved loads of cash by coming here and have always got great advice.
donation sent! |
As others had posted, the amount of money I have saved from the use of this forum has been great, but the knowledge and confidence I have gained you can not place an amount on.
I too have sent a PayPal contribution to a great site. Thanks to all the staff and members for keeping this site the best! |
To the early poster re: Westboro Church. You're exactly right about how they finance themselves. I live an hour away from those dregs of humanity. In the past 25 years I've tangled with Margie Phelps on two occasions. Once in '86 and once in '05. It was all I could do to keep from going over the police line and wrapping my hands around her throat. I worked for a collection agency while I was going to college in the 80s. I had to call her on a bad credit card debt. At the time I didn't know who they were. When my supervisor heard who I was talking to he ran across the room and hung up my phone. Then he explained to me how they were lawsuit-happy and that they would figure out a way to sue my company if I called them again etc. He told me to just dump the account. The other time was when my little sister graduated KU law school. They were there picketing that event, saying horrible things to people as they walked by, including me. The Phelps clan are an embarrassment to our state and we've done our part to try and get rid of them to no avail. They feed on hatred and negativity and live off of suing people. I do know this; when Fred-baby finally dies he better be buried in an undisclosed location. There will be quite a crowd there to "pay their respects"....
Sorry I got off-topic... just venting. Sean |

Done deal, guys.
Geez, I hope I wasn't the culprit who started this whole thing!! I don't remember getting anything from a Nevada paper...................................and I tend to post links rather than cut and paste stuff..............but, it was just before the elections.........crap, now I'll lose sleep over injuring the forum I love!! |
Donation sent. LOVE this forum!
How about a donation permalink somewhere on the site, like a little banner at the top? I wouldn't be offended. Other p-car sites have them, why shouldn't we? |

Maybe we should just do a sticky with a title like - "help the forum when it helps you" |

Thanks, Tom |
