Question about rear spoiler

I have a 99 boxster with Aero kit 1, my car did not came with the "infamous" speed sensitive spoiler. Just wanted to know which year did this machanical raising spoiler came as stardard for all Boxsters? Have anyone installed one on their own? Is there a retro-fit kit for non-equipped cars?

As far as I know, it came on all years. Maybe because yours has the aerokit it was either removed or disabled...

Came on all years. Your was just disabled for the fixed spoiler.

oh man that sucks!!! I rather have that then the aero kit spoiler..... If was to do this mod, I think I would need a different rear trunk lid, rear bumper plus the machanics of the spoiler to get what I am suppose to have. geez...

What about the third break light? I have seen most of them located on the hatch where the roof tucks in? Mine is located on the spoiler....

Yeah, this is how your rear should look...

For the price it would cost to convert it back, I would just live with it and be happy that it is unique.

Oh man.... all this time I was confused it was a updated thing that porsche did.... yeah I guess I have to live with it... My gf brought this to my attension, "how come your car donesn't have that cool spoiler thingy"....... :(

Wow...that's like being a guy who has no...err...sorry to hear that, Tech986art....

It is just my point of view but given the way the spoiler looks when it is up, I would as soon disconnect the thing!

what about newer Boxsters with Areo kit type II? did that came with machanical spoiler and 3 brake-light?

If I remember correctly, basically all Porsche did was disconect the wire to the spoiler. Just reonnect it and yours will work.

I don't suppose so. It's still the fixed type with a third brake light integrated. I personally perfer the Aero Kit spoiler as what BruceLee said, the looks of the standard spoiler when raised just looks awful!

I'm in the process of getting the AeroKit II rear spoiler. I'm assuming it needs no modification to the trunk lid to install? What happens to the existing 3rd brake light at the trunk lid?

Is there a way to manually raise and lower the standard spoiler, or does it just raise at speed. I just purchased a used 2001 986S and am wondering if mine is operational. thanks...

Small toggle button by the fuses, driver left foot well.
This will manually raise it.
If you do this it will not lower unless you restart the car, go past 50 and back down, or manually lower it yourself.
If your wing is deactivated, the manual button will not work.
