Oil drain seepage
 

Anybody else get seepage from their oil drain plug when it is torqued properly? After I changed the oil in my old engine, I noticed that the oil pan always had an oil stain on it centered around the plug. In getting the replacement engine ready, I put the magnetic plug in the engine with the new "crush ring". Two days ago I was under the car and there was a little bit of oil all around the plug. Looking at the "crush ring", it doesn't look crushed at all to me.

So have you guys seen the same thing? If so, what did you do about it.

BTW, both situations are with the LNE magnetic drain plug. I don't think that's the problem, but IDK for sure.

No seepage from mine with OE drain plug, new crush washer and proper torque. Let us know if you find the answer. I was/am thinking about switching to the LN magnetic drain plug during the next change.

I have the LN magnetic drain plug and absolutely no seepage.

We see a lot of both OEM and LN plugs every week, they are all dry, save a couple that reused the aluminum crush washer...............

What are the torque specs you guys are using? I think (just going on memory since I'm not home) that I used 50 Nm.

I'm not a bit worried that maybe my torque wrench is horrible out of calibration.

Both times were DEFINITELY with new crush washers.

37 ft. Lb = 50 Nm.........

Now I wonder about my torque wrench. :confused:

no seepage with LN mag plug here

I have never had a oil leak from the drain plug OEM or LN. I rarely use a torque wrench to tighten it but I have reused the crush washer & zero leaks. Maybe your sump plate has a small crack or imperfection in the sealing area.

Or his drain plug does......................
