101 Projects for Your Porsche Boxster (Motorbooks Workshop)

Does anyone own this manual??? I have the Bentley Service Manual already, but previewed this one on Amazon and it looks really good. Nice color! Only $24 plus shipping.

Just ordered one, should be here shortly.

Got one, and I think it will quickly save me far more than the cost of the book. Someone mentioned on this forum that everything in it is already available online, and that's probably true, but having good pictures that you can refer to while you're in the garage is worth a lot. Haven't tackled any of the projects yet - but it gives me the initiative to try. For marginal mechanics like myself it is perfect.

I will be ordering mine in a week or two and I don't even own a boxster...yet.

Have one and it is meant to be used with the Bentley manual as a team.

Sounds intriguing. I wonder though if 100 projects would cover my cars present and past ailments (grin).

Got it- really nice book, plus there is an online component where you can view updates and lots of extra pictures that wouldn't fit in the book. Unfortunately, the one project that I was really hoping for wasn't in there, but perhaps it will come out later as an update.

I also bought the OBDII manual at the same time, and I have the Bentley Manual, and the parts catalog already. With these and all the great online DIY's, there shouldn't be much that the average owner can't do.

Must've been a lot more challenging owning a specialty car like this before the days of the internet. Good info would have been tough to find.

Super book - well worth the price.

Got mine a couple of weeks ago direct from Pelican. Great book!

I remember when Wayne was asking for input for the book on the Pelican forum.

And I never ordered (forgot) the book, thanks for bringing up the post as now I will order.

A word of caution......

Last week I was doing my annual check on the polyrib belt and idler bearings. I had my Bentley Manual on the bench & 101 Projects next to the car. After removing the lower idler, I reverted to the 101 manual (closest to me) for the bolt tightening torque which it gives at 46Nm. Before the torque wrench got to that setting, the bolt snapped off in the crankcase......
I'm sat there with the idler pulley in my hand and the bolt sheared flush with the crankcase. When the shock subsided, I checked the Bentley Manual - it says the bolt should be torqued to 23Nm - exactly half the value the 101 Manual states.

I contacted Wayne Dempsey to let him know the mistake and he is altering the remaining unsold manuals and notifying Pelical supplied manual buyers.
I guess mistakes happen (just ask my wallet) just double check everything you read in 101 Projects.

That's quite unfortunate about snapping the bolt...I own this wonderful book and Wayne emailed me directly about the typo.

I do recommend anyone who either owns or is considering purchasing a Boxster to buy this book.

I honestly think Wayne's book may have the highest knowledge/price ratio of any volume in my library. It is literally a treasure trove. It is to me the only "must have" book for 986 owners.

Whats so great about it? Can anyone tell me of a few projects that will convince me to buy the book? Does it show you how to change the conv. top?

Let me know thanks.

Mark_T 01-24-2011 05:25 PM

I'm sure that if you go to Pelican's website, or use the search engine on this forum, you should be able to find the info you want.

There's a bunch (101!)---that's gonna cover most things the typical Boxster owner is going to want to do. (Yes, it talks about how to change the top.)
