Gonna do plugs, should I do tubes / rings at the same time?

Hey guys,

My car is a 2002 S and though it only has 33k miles on it I figure I'm going to change the plugs, serpentine belt and filters as I do not believe the plugs / belt have been changed yet. The car hasn't leaked any oil at all (thankfully), but I figure if I'm going after the plugs I should do the tubes / o-rings at the same time..

What dya figure?

Thanks!

Yes. Change the tubes and rings. If not for the mileage, then for the fact the car is nine years old. I changed mine with only 17K on the odometer because the car was ten at the time.

i honestly wouldn't bother. spark plug tube leaks aren't THAT common. i'd wait & change them one at a time if they ever do start to leak.

I have 2000 S with nearly 70K on the clock. Porsche recommends plugs to be changed out at 70K miles, serpentine belt at 60K and if the tubes are not leaking, why bother.

FYI, I have a 99 Boxster with 59k on the clock and one leaking tube/o-ring. It's readily apparent after simply removing a wheel..look at the plug area and see if its stained/wet . I think the general recommendation (i.e. 70+% of forum members) is that if none are leaking, them leave be.

I'm still weighing whether or not to replace all of them...I'm kinda leaning towards just doing one. Might be the "cheap" way, but I'll have the wheels off twice a year and can easily inspect if another starts leaking at any time.

Hi, nice to know there are ppl from edmonton on this forum

When I did my plugs @ 105000 km (iridium)
I checked the o-rings & tubes
no leaks or signs of oil...so I didn't touch them
if it ain't broke don't fix it....not being cheap...just sensible
just make sure that u put the caps back on securely or it will
throw cell codes
took me just about an hour. .....on my back with car raised on driveway
I also took the time to check out the heat shield and exhaust/cats
nothing loose..so I was happy

besides with all the snow we've received. I wish I had a heated garage
to tinker on the boxster.....4 more monthes till she comes out again
cheers
Chris

Definitely didn't think there were any other Edmontonians either! The snow for the last few days has been awful. My Boxster is in a heated garage but kinda tucked away so I doubt I'll do the work on it until it warms up and there's more space in the garage.

After reading all the replies I've leave it as is and just do the plugs.. Seems to make the most sense.

Thanks guys

Heck I live in Charlotte NC and I haven't been able to get out with the top down much and all I want is 44 degrees! Snowed again here today :(

So over the weekend I changed my plugs, cleaned up the engine under them so if they leak I'll know in the future. Have 54K miles and only one tube had a speck of oil in it. Only thing I might do is replace the rings on it, but in no hurry, everything looked real good!

As for changing the tubes and o-rings, I do a lot of things on my boxster that might not be needed, figure if you do it now, probably won't ever have to later. Often I do things just for the learning experience :)
