Big time lurker. Engineer in my 50's. Closer to 60 but feel 30 and act it most of the time. 911 owner for the last 20 years. 10 years ago I almost bought a new Boxter but got a black on black Z3 3.0 and did a full Dinan conversion to it. I really love it but have seriously been thinking about replacing it with a Boxter. Not considering replacing the 911.

welcome!

sdean911, I owned a '97 and '98 z3, one with the 1.9 and the other with the 2.5. Great cars and bullet-proof motors. Then I bought a '03 Z4 2.5, then the boxster s I still have today. That's a beautiful 911 in your pic.! Good luck.

Thanks you guys. I wanted a 911 since I was a kid. I just had to wait 20 years to get the one identical to the one I sat in back in '73. Since then I did a ground up restoration, added a 2.7 RS motor, steel RS flares, 7 and 8 inch Fuchs and, well ...Life is Good. The newer flag mirrors are needed because I drive it to work often.

I have to agree on the Z3 motor comment. 10 years old and almost 90k on the clock and not a single issue of any kind. When I was shopping for a new roadster back in 2000 there was already talk of the RMS issue and the IMS bearing. After countless dollars making the 911 not leak oil, I just couldn't pull the trigger on the Boxster. Never regretted it as the Z is really a great long nose low beltline roadster. Reminds me of the old Healey 3000's from when I was a kid. But now it feels a bit dated. Strange comment from a guy that drives a 37 year old car to work, but none the less that is where my head is at.

Right now I am leaning on an early 200? Boxster. Probably an 'S' if the price is right. I also always wanted an old Lotus Esprit so no telling what will eventually happen. Not sure if and when I will do what, but it is fun to day dream.

Take care, Greg

P.S. I'll be lurking.

Hey Guys....
Just read your post. I bought my first 03' Triple Black Boxster in July and have been extremely busy reading all your great past postings to be able to understand my new car and then do my own wrenching. This forum has been extremely informative and fun to read. Plus I have to work to support my old and new habits. I feel that my learning curve has been shorten do to this great forum. I have always enjoyed wrenching various motorized machines since my early childhood days. Now, i feel I have more time in my life to enjoy my new Porsche!!!! It feels so good to drop the top and go driving. Finally this forum has allowed me the ability to learn and plan my wrenching jobs in advance.
Thanks for everyones input......
Enjoy the New Year.......Bob
