Heater core Replaced but still stinky??

Hi

My old heater core was leaking really bad to the point of smell and steam vapor coming thru the vents.

sooooooo......

I replaced it with a mint condition used one i picked up for $80.

when I removed the old leaking heatercore there was obviously actual coolant building up just below it.

I soaked up and removed all of the coolant I could before installing the new heater core!.

My question is:

Is it common to still smell coolant coming from the vent after replacing a bad heater core???

its not too bad but still can be smelled when I turn on the car/heat.

you can let the car run with the heater on hot/high for a while or auto supplies sell a spray that may help......my guess is you didnt clean it good enuf. if its an easy job just reclean....if its a hard job why a used core ? did you have it tested at a radiator shop before you put it in ?

I had a heater core replaced in my Dodge truck last year (at the dealer) the smell from the leaking one took a long time to dissapate. Maybe several months...

When I replaced the heater core in my Cosworth I ended up pulling back the carpet to dry it out for about two weeks by running the heater on full whenever I could. Extanker brought up a good point, did you have your used core tested? Hopefully it's not leaking.

might also be a good time to replace the cabin air filter.

The cabin airfilter is just under the hood on the passenger side right? under the windshield wiper? I did replace that if that is in fact the cabin filter.

I really hope there is just some coolant in the air ducts rather than the used heater-core failing already
