Boxster with Cayman 17" rims.....

Hi,

I had to replace the front rims on my 2001 boxster as they were dented over 2 axis (left right, up down).

Managed to find a pair of cayman 17" rims

The fronts are 7 x 17" offset 55
The rears are 8.5 x 17" offset 40

Frankly the rears are nicely further out than the original boxster 8.5 x 17" offset 48 rims. Looks good.

Question 1 - does this affect the handling of the car ? With the rears 8mm further out than original. Visually it's a little weird with the fronts clearly further in than the rears. Increase in understeer ?

Question 2 - I also looked in the 986 Tequipment brochure and was rather surprised that Porsche recommends 5mm spacers for the original 17" box rims. Was thinking whether it's ok (ie no additional vibrations) adding 5mm to the fronts to balance out with the rears.

Frankly, I've got bad experience with spacers, but then they were rather big h&r spacers - that has 5 bolts going to the wheel hub and 5 going from the rims to the spacers. Surely 5mm h&r or Porsche spacers should be less of a problem ?

Or has anyone running good quality 5mm spacers on the front wheels ? Any adverse effects ?

I run 5mm spacers in the front without any problems.

Thank you ! Looks like I'll be going down that route after I sort out the current steering vibration problems. Balance out the visual look.
