Mismatched sidevents...normal?

I just noticed my 2000 Boxster S that I just bought last week has mismatched side vents. The passenger vent goes in about half and inch and looks stock. The driver vent sticks out about half and inch and looks like it might be a replacement from a different model year. Is this normal or is my initial impression correct?

That is normal. The left side (driver's side) is the engine intake inlet and is shaped slightly different.

Normal...supposed to deflect items that could become sucked into the intake; like ciggy butts (not that anyone would toss one out the window ).
