DIY: AOS and Water Pump jobs
So i'm think of doing these on my '01 Boxster. I'm pretty confident with tools and working on cars but I'm no mechanic. I also like working on my car but only really get 9pm onwards to do work (so most jobs I do have to be done in 3-4 hours max).
How long should each of these take for a first timer? and are they particularly diffifcult jobs? |
I haven't done the water pump but the AOS is pretty straight forward. Make sure you get the lower boot part as well as the upper tube part that goes from the AOS to the engine. There are two different kinds of upper tube I believe so make sure of what you're ordering. Everything is accessed from above and the only tricky part is getting at those nasty spring clamps at the bottom of the AOS. I used a variety of pliers until I found one that would work in the space allowed.

Did my AOS...took my time which was a bout 1 1/2 hours. It's just a tight area. The AOS now comes with the bottom boot bellows and o'ring, all you need is to get the J-tube. Water pump takes about 2-3 hours for the same reason. Good luck.

The AOS is a bit more difficult, just because it's uncomfortable.
The water pump is easier. You can find help on my DIY pages. For AOS: http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_3/Replace_the_Air_Oil_Separator.html For Water Pump: http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_3/Replace_Water_Pump.html Happy Boxstering, Pedro |
