Zeintop Instructions
 

I brought my 986 Zeintop home from the paint shop today and don't have the instructions to put it together. Do any of you guys who have already put a DIW kit together still have your instructions on your hard drive?

what color is your car? I plan to invest in one of these in near future despite the steep cost.

Perfectlap, xtrememotorcars.com's owner emailed me a while back with two versions he's creating for the 986 and 987 that should be a lot less expensive. One is a total zeintop knock-off, and the other is kinda zeintop-like, but allows the owner to keep the factory trunk lid intact... but it looks more angular like the zeintop than the factory hard top.

I'm waiting for one of these to become available.

makes sense. I see imported carbon fiber bicyles on Ebay for $100 bucks these days. Makes me wonder how expensive it would be to make a carbon-reinforced version of the factory hard top but with the Zeintop shape. I suppose fitting a the latch and window would be more involved but it doesn't seem like something a competent person couldn't figure out. The factory latch could be taken off salvaged softops and the Cayman rear window is probably a Sekurit piece that can be ordered from Safelite or similar. I just don't see how you get to $3,000+.

I looked into having rollbar hoops manufactured in China to resell on eBay for all the 986 owners who don't have them or had them but lost one or they were stolen, and the molds alone were going to cost me $5000, plus $2500 or more for a very short first run. So the high prices make a little more sense to me, but it's pretzel logic nevertheless.

I understand why the first tops sold would be in the thousands... or at the very most the first 100 or 250 he sells. But, like you, I still don't think the price is commensurate with the product. Zeintop would have made a killing if they had only charged $999 as an introductory offer on the $1499 top. Their greed put them out of business.

I guess they were trying to push all their risks on the early buyers.

with thousands of Boxsters trading hands at least once, I have to agree that at an attractive price point would have been promising. ALthough shipping those things was a major wrench in the process. I also wonder if BSR racing series would have been a way for them to cash on their design, albeit without the extra finishing like glass, weatherstripping, soundproofing etc.

Thanks to all the people for their advice on DIW installation. If I was starting from scratch I would have done some things a little differently but it is all done and other than some minor tweeking it looks great.
