M680 Amp 6x40W - Peak or RMS ?

The M680 Sound Packedge of the Boxster/996 have the DSP Amp that claim to push 6chan of 40W.. (240W)

Are these supposed to be Peak Watt or RMS?..

I have a Setup with a CDR-220 Radio, the DSP 6x40W Amp, the DSP Controller and 4 Speaker.. so I'm using 4 Chan of 40W on the Amp.. (witch would give 160W).. And I guess the Radio take a few watt to play the CD etc.. but on the 12V input of my setup, it's only taking 5 Amp (5x12 = 60W) when pushed full blast.. and most of the time under 3 Amp (3x12 = 36W)..

So.. where are all those Watt comming from ?!? Is there something I don't unerstand in the Electric of a Sound System ??

Thanks :)

Often the rating is peak only. The amp should also give a separate RMS rating as well.

That's peak, when going downhill with a tailwind, and 100% distortion....
