holding back and idle speed

when i use my boxster (its a 1999 , 2.5 manual with 57k on it) straight from cold the idle speed jumps up and down even if i try to hold the tick over a 2k. and when driving it it jumps and hessitates at most speeds. it still does it when i leave it running to warm up first buy no where near as much. also i think its connected to the above problem but it also sometimes completely cuts the power above 4500/5000 k if you have the pedel flat on the floor. (doesnt stop, just dies down to a tick over) i've had new coil packs fitted new plugs, oxegen sensors fitted to the cat and i have just ordered a new MAF sensor (not fitted yet) have been told that it does sound like it needs a MAF sensor but thats coming from thr guy that has done the other work already!!! not sure if i believe him any more. can any one out there help me ????
cheers guys..

RYD,

has your guy looked at the codes ? it's tough to find specialists that do actually know what they are talking about in the UK.... Jake Raby it seems although a rare breed is even rarerer out of the US.

some of the other posters here may be able to give you assistance.. insite knows his stuff !

I had a similar issue in that my 1999 2.7 would hunt when warm and at idle, this was caused by a dirty throttle body, cleaned up and all ok there. Then I had an episode where I was overtaking and all power died off, I released my foot off the accelerator and re-applied and the power came back. No problems after that for a while until I had the car kangarooing down the road, check engine light coming on and off but would still drive unless I pressed the accelerator too hard. Stopped and left car for a couple of hours, got back in and it drove normally. Was advised this was the MAF and so removed and cleaned, has been fine ever since, so have decided to replace the MAF next year.
