Help wanted with key

Hi guys

In a couple of days I will be taking delivery of a black on black 2001 S. It was purchased interstate (from Sydney, Australia) after coming very highly recommended by a Porsche mechanic with an excellent reputation. It is in immaculate condition and very low mileage. All looking good. However ... the previous owner mailed me one of the keys (the others are with the shippers). The key I received was unused and simply lay in a drawer. I suspect the battery is dead (a light does not come on when any of the buttons are pushed).

Is the battery dead?

What are the steps to replace it?

If the battery is dead and I replace it, what are the ramifications for the remote? Do I need to have the key/remote reset by the agent? Or is changing the battery enough to make the key useable - assuming that the other key/remote is working when the car arrives?

Many thanks.

Regards from Perth

Derek

If no light come on good chance are your battery is dead, you can simply cahnge it yourself.. it's a little 'watch battery'.. CR-something.. Look closely at the key you'll see there a separation mark, open it up and change the battery, you won't break anything :) Once the battery is changed it 'should' just work, nothing else to do to bring it back to life, except if it's somehow damaged..

Hope this helps.. Have Fun :)
