High Watt High Beams

Has anyone used 100 watt H7's? Any problems? Will the factory wiring take it? Will the lenses and housing take it? If they're too hot, what bulb is available? I'm using Sylvania Silver Stars and I like them but would like more light w/o the cost of litronics and headache of aftermarket HID. Thanks,

High watts bulbs burn the lenses

as many have found. Bigger is not better. Bigger is very costly.

Sylvania advertises: "H7SU SilverStar Ultra: The brightest and whitest light. Up to 50% brighter, up to 40% more downroad visibility and up to 50% more sideroad visibility."

Note the "Ultra" and the "H7SU"

bulbs

I would be very concerned about putting a higher wattage bulb in, as these headlight housings allready have a know problem with burn marks

I think you are going to find that 100-watt bulbs of ANY designation are very short-lived, and not worth it, especially when you consider that changing bulbs on a Boxster is not a 3-minute job.

You should consider the Osram 65-watt H7s sold by candlepowerinc.com. They are H9 bulbs on an H7 base. I recently installed them in my wife's non-HID Passat, and they really made a difference. The OEM bulbs were absolutely pitiful.

I haven't installed these Osrams in my Boxster because I have the factory HID, and I hardly ever use the foglamps or high-beams...the factory HIDs are THAT good!

Thanks for the information. I'll stay away from the high watt bulbs.
