Gear Shift on 99 Boxster

Looked at changing the standard old and tatty gear knob for a momo style, but removing original I found the shift has a blade top not compatible with most aftermarket shift knobs.
Does anyone know of a good aftermarket knob that is compatible?
Also is a short shifter the way to go? The ones I have looked at for the car are finished with the same blade type top.
Is a sort shifter worth doing? Gear shift is long for a sports car I feel.
Thanks foe any advice offered.
Its tough enough as a British Driver in Cali!!

If you want the MOMO you have to form the existing nub to receive it, the only aftermarket knobs that will fit as is are going to be the Porsche units or ebay knock offs of OEM. MOMO + MOMO screw on boot to knob = 1/3 the price and IMO better look and Italian boot leather.
