Castrol Syntec $5.99 @ Autozone

$59.99 + tax bought me 10 quarts of Castrol Syntec 5W40 at Autozone. Normal price is $79.99. The sale was unadvertized. If you use Castrol Syntec, now would be a good time to inquire if your local store has the same deal.

Last week I was in Kragen (aka CSK, Checker, Schucks, oreilly, etc), they had 5 qts of Syntec with a K&N oil filter for $28. They don't have an oil filter to fit the Boxster, but you can pick up some for your other cars. Dunno if this is still going on.

In my area, Wal Mart has this oil in 5 qt jugs at between $22-25 at all times.

Interesting. I checked there first but only found 30-weight in the 5qt size.

Costco has $9 off a case of 6 qts. of Mobil 1. I got the 10W-30, which I understand (hope) is okay for climate in the Seattle area. Works out to $4.16/qt. I bought the limit, 3 cases, which should be (almost) good for 2 changes. $9 coupon is in the flyer they sent out, but I think they have extras at the front desk.

Well, I did a little homework and I see there are lots of opinions on oil but it looks like the consensus is that xxW-40 is the viscousity of choice and the Mobil 1 isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Bummer, because that Costco price was pretty good and double bummer that I'm now going to have to stand in that long line to make the return. The only good thing is that the oil was just changed in June by the previous owner and I don't plan on driving it that much if at all over the winter. Will probably go with the Castol Syntech 10W-40 in June when I plan to change the oil.

Castrol Syntec 10W40 for me...I'll have to check out the deal with the free filter. My Box has the LN adapter, so I can use a premium filter, instead of the el cheapo paper element. Since I need 10 quarts, I usually get the second filter for my DD. I'm due for my fall/annual oil change anyway...put almost 3000 miles on the car this year!

Bought Castrol Syntec 5W-40 today at Wallyworld to replace the Mobil1 0W-40 I have been running.
