Ashtray Options

I bought my first Porsche last week. It is a 2000 Boxster with 78K miles. I got it pretty cheap so I know I'm going to have to put some money into it. Anyway, the ashtray is broken to where it won't close and I'm looking to replace it. A new one from Porsche is $209. I found this one at Bumperplugs for $149. There's another one that looks like it just plugs the hole for $69. Are there any other options out there?

You can replace it with a storage compartment thing with no lid.

if you need a black one, let me know and I'll check if I can find the one I took out

I prefer the "non-smokers" tray, which is what you have pictured. Fits a cell phone or whatever very nicely.

Seems to be the best option I can find. I was hoping there was something out there that plugged into that hole that gave you a drink holder, which is something I really miss from my previous vehicles.

I've tried a few cupholder solutions and found that the Ultimate cupholder seems to work the best for me.

Ultimate Cupholder

Buy two and put 'em both on the passenger side.

Eagleday is probably your best bet if you want the non-smoker's insert. That's where I got mine.

Non-smoker console insert

If you're also thinking about changing your console color...there's always an EBAY listing for painted consoles that include a matching non-smoker insert (also a matching trim piece for the hand-brake and supposedly upgraded storage box hinge).

The price goes back and forth between about $390 and $410, but a couple of weeks ago they had a 24-hour special for $300 (all prices with free shipping) that I jumped on.

It took me a couple of hours to swap the console out (you'd be amazed at the number of little clips attaching pieces to it and the Bentley manual misses a couple of connections that must be removed) and I'm extremely happy with the result.

$49 at Suncoast:

Still a lot of money for a little piece of plastic.

FYI...EBAY seller is "euromotorspeed", he has a current listing for $307.50 for "Carrera white", but notes that "Speed Yellow, Aluma Look, Biarritz White, and Guards Red" can be shipped at no additional charge.

I'd like to deal with Suncoast, but Canadian buyers are required to set up this Bongo shipping address nonsense, which of course costs money. Sellers who make things needlessly difficult don't get my business.

I think I paid about $50 for mine, and the rubber mat was $5 more. I use a BMW blank plug to replace the lighter. Plain matte black w/o the no smoking symbol. It matches the horse collar pretty well.

Sunset in Oregon might be more Canada friendly.

Thanks for the tip on the BMW block off plug...I don't smoke and would rather have a plug than a lighter (when my detector is not in use), so I bought one of these...hope this was what you were describing.

When I bought my non-smoker's tray, I think I paid around $50...sold my unused ash tray on eBay for $75!
