Aftermarket brakes/rotors identification question
Hi,
I just received new brakes rotors for my 2000 Boxster base. I got them from R1Concepts and they look really nice.. I also got brakes/rotors for my SUV in same package However they came packed without any markings on them.. Now I'm stuck with 8 rotors and no ideea what goes where.. Do front rotors differ from rear? how about left and right? Do they go in only where they supposed to or I can mix and match them.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sasha |
Are they identical in shape, size, markings, holes, and everything else?
If so, then I would venture to say they can go anywhere. |
They are not identical.. but similar.
I worry that I'll stick them to the wrong side and screw something up:) Thanks Sasha |
This is just from memory from glancing at the Bentley manual a couple months ago (I've never changed my rotors...so far anyway), but I seem to recall the OEM front rotors being thicker than the rears. Which, of course, would make sense. You're sure they're all the same thickness?
I should add that I was reading about the S model (naturally)---I suppose it's possible they are all the same in the base model? |
Why don't you just ask R1Concepts?
|
After closer inspection I see that they are difffrerent 2 by 2. so most probably fronts and rears are different and left/right are interchangeable.
Now hopefully I get it right:) I did send an email to R1Concepts but it's weekend.. and I don't want to wait until monday. BTW rotors are heavy.. 4 rotors and pads are in 60lbs package (all together).. is that heavier than OEM? One more thing.. zinc plated cross drilled and slotted rotors look sooooo cool. Can't wait to install them Thanks Sasha |
You've got it right... the L/R are interchangeable, and the F/R are different. For simplicity sake in describing, Slightly bigger ones go up front, smaller in rear. Did you get the slotted ones, or which type did you get?
|
Left and right are not interchangable if they have directional vanes.

I make around 6-7k miles a year and I don't track the car.. it's my daily driver..
If these rotors will hold for 30-40K miles it's goos enough for me. I paid 250$ for 4 rotors + pads.. honestly 250$ every 5-6 years is not a bad deal for me. Also I got posi-quiet ceramic pads.. which are supposed to be very low dust. I know performance is not the same, but for daily driver in city traffic.. it's good enough. Thanks for the tips about directional vanes.. now let's hope that I won't mix rotors for RX330 and boxster ones:) Thanks for all the advices. Sasha |
Bolt patterns are completely different so no way you can mix them up.

The reason no markings is that they are most likely made in China. I put drilled Balo's on my Boxster S...had Product No. and where made. This where made in Germany and paid less than $200 for all 4 from Pelican. Perfect fit and I feel no difference from the originally equipment, except, the new one's stop a lot better and smoother.

Very true, although I think the OP has R1concept rotors for the base box, which IIRC don't have directional vanes. |
