Key replacement?

Hi everyone,

Was curious about something. I have an 02 boxster and my remote key is in very bad condition and only the actual key works, the remote is dead (looks like I have the key of an old Volvo, no offense...). I was wondering if it was easy to get a new key if I go to to a porsche dealer and wanted to know how much it would cost me.

Thanks for your help guys!

Porsche should keep the remote key heads in stock,
at least my dealer does.
I think they are worth $150-170 for the head, retail price,
and my dealer was a very reasonable $30-50 for programming.

I was expecting the price to be much higher..

Bear in mind, this is just the remote head, but the actual key you stick in the ignition.

That's about what I paid at my local dealer here in NJ.

Bear in mind you must have all of your keys/heads available for the programming even though you'll only have one new one, and you car must be there as well. My dealer said the programming took 20-30 mins total.

One last question, when you changed the head you got the whole head, right? Also the side where the small Porsche logo is? That's the part that's really in a bad shape, all cracked up and all..
