Central Locking

Hi,

I have a year 2000 Boxter, and recently returned from 2 week holiday to find the battery almost dead. Luckily I was able to unlock & open the bonnet to re charge the battery. However I've now got problems with the remote key which only works now and again.

More often it doesn't work and I have to use the key in the lock to open the drivers door.
Then the door unlocks but I have to put the key in the ignition very quick because I hear a 'beep' and then the alarm sounds.

Also I see that the locking switch on the dashboard is showing 'on'

I have changed the batteries in both remotes and they both react in the same way.

Does anyone have any ideas please?
