Convertible top closing crookedly

When the top is about 15% away from being closed and the clam shell begins narrowing down, I notice that the top is not retracting evenly. The driver's side is a bit higher. The clam shell will push the top closed then will stick up about an inch or 2, won't close all the way. I noticed a small tear developing in the top behind the driver's seat. The top is getting pressure from a metal structural piece as it clamps down all the way.

Is there a way to adjust this? If I had to guess the cable just loosened up from the motor and needs tightened... but that is just a guess.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

You may need to replace the cables and re-synchronize the top.

Not uncommon. The sheathing surrounding the actual cable shrinks with time mainly due to engine heat. When that happens, the cable (one for each side) can pull away from the transmission or motor can cause the issue you state.

Best not to operate the top until it's corrected or you risk bending the aluminum clamshell.

Cheers!

Check the push rods perhaps a bolt got loose. They have the white or red caps on them.

Ok I've determined that the issue is that the canvas top is not retracting far enough down, so now the clamshell can't close down on it and sits about 1" high.

LB, thanks for the advice! Pelicanparts shows 2 different cables. motor to transmission cables and convertible top tension cables. Sorry, but I'm not sure which cables I'll need to replace.
