Need For Speed

Hey guy’s,

There are lots of threads about making our cars faster. In most of those threads at least one person also advises a driver’s course to really get the most out of our cars. Why spend the money to make the car faster, when we are not driving it to its current potential? Good question, however, there are very few threads on making the driver faster. I found this thread on driver’s education courses. It has some discussion which I found informative. http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/4978-driving-school-recommendations.html?highlight=driver+education However, the thread is about 4 years old. It has a little information on some of the Racing/Drivers Ed schools. It discusses karting. It even suggests joining the local PCA club and going to their day long classes. I have not made the jump to join the PCA yet, but am considering it.

So, I would like to get a thread started with some more up-to-date and complete information. I would like people to post about their Racing/Drivers Ed school experience. Please include the following:
-Course name
-Location
-What cars did you drive?
-Cost
-What skills/concepts did you learn?
-Class time vs. Track time
-Overall impression, including pros and cons.
-Please compare to other courses you may have taken.

Thanks.

PCA-SDR Performance Driving School
San Diego CA, Qualcom Stadium
My Boxster
$325 Dirt Cheap and includes meals.
A lot. Skidpad exercises, accident avoidance, threshold braking, mini autocross course, early apex/late apex pros/cons, slalom course, 1 full day of continuous AX with instructor in your car. Ride along with the best of instructors in GT3RS, 928, 914, 944, 911SC, Ferrari 308 GTS, Cayman S, Boxster S, Corvette Z06, 964, 930, 951 to see how it's really done.
Fri. pm class 3hrs, Sat. 7am-5pm skills exercises, Sun. 7am-5pm Continuous AX and ride alongs.
Perhaps the best performance driving school on the west coast, and dirt cheap. Most who have done this and the Porsche Driving Experience said this was much more comprehensive at 1/5 the price.

Cons- the driving surface at Qualcom is simply falling apart. Needs resurfacing.

Just checked the calendar, they have a PDS coming up in October and there are still a few openings available if someone moves quickly.
